Among the most requested themes and sessions, have been the following . . .


Shapes 'n Such: The Art of DAK Shaping
This class focuses on how to utilize and personalize the shapes available from many sources,including the Shapes 'n Such CD. For DAK 6 and 7 users.

24 Karat Knitting
This class deals with ways to decorate and embellish knits with gold leafing, for that unusal and dramatic 24-Karat look! We will learn how to use three-dimensional paints and fabric crayons to enhance any garment, and incorporate the two techniques for the height of fashion effect.

The Cooperative Knitting Machine
Would you like to put your knitting techniques "on steroids"? Learn how to hang a hem in one easy step, or make fast and easy pom-poms, tassels, ruffles and fringes right on your machine. This class will focus on many ways to create unique three-dimensional trims using simple items found in our crafting rooms, methods to master some of the basic knitting machine techniques using easy tricks of the trade, creating intarsia color blocks that are really fairisle without floats, mastering pintucks and stuffed i-cord pintucks, knitting both sides of the neckline at one time, knitting pockets in under two minutes, two-color cables, free-form knitting, some hand manipulation techniques, plus a lot more if time permits. We will also focus on the many three-dimensional shapes found in the new Cooperative III book.

           

Knitting for Baby
We all make baby blankets . . . but finishing them can often be quite a chore. For that touch of creativity, learn to make short rowed ruffles and knitted fringes. We will discuss appropriate designs, and ways of incorporating patterns we already have available, to make that timeless gift. Short rowed afghans will be discussed along with lace, fine lace, crochet lace and thread lace. Matching outfits using some of these same techniques will round out the discussion.

Little Bags for Little People. . and big people too!
These bags are knitted and ready to use in under a half hour. The kids love them, and they can be knit in three sizes. When dcorated with their favorite themes, they become purses, necklases, lunch box, and computer disk carriers. A great way to use up that leftover yarn and give your special person agreat big smile! We will also examine ways to bead evening bags using single strands of readymade beads available at craft shops.

Faux Crochet and Three-Needle Knitting
This class will focus on making crochet on your machine that looks and feels like it was made by hand. It can be used for edging around skirts pleats or at a neckline or cuffs, and has a truly finished and beautiful look. We will also spend time learning how to knit using only 3 needles. Using this method we can create beautiful shawls and wraps, table runners, coasters and doilies. And using a reverse method will allow you knit rugs tat are completely finished when they come off the machine.

Knitted Jewelry
This class teaches methods to knit simple and easy jewelry in under one hour without wire, incorporating beads and the clasps in as you knit. Once you learn how quick and easy it is, you will be able to create wonderful gifts and make unique pieces that will take only small amounts of materials. You only need your imagination and the beads of your choice.

Three-Dimensional Scarves and Wraps
This class will focus on methods to knit flowers, bunnies and many other three-dimensional objects as we knit the main piece. We will also concentrate on unique ways to knit the fashionable potato chip scarves that have become so popular today, as well as wraps that are made in less than an hour, scarves that have been needle-felted, as well as having three-dimensional drops and baubles. We also learn how to knit beads into scarves, and how to create small evening bags, embellished with beads in under a half hour.

       

Designing Your Own Trims, Edgings, and Cast-Ons
This class focuses on designing and making your own unique trims and cast-ons. In particular, we will focus on the mechanics of trim design, and once you see how easy it is, you will always have the ability to whip up something special that lends character to your knits. We will also learn how to make cast-on loops that create a matrix of texture and style, most fashionable when applied to the bottom of garments.

The 90-Minute Tie
This course will demonstrate how easy it is to knit, block, and sew a tie . . . all in under 90 minutes. The finished tie looks like it comes from the finest store, and when personalized, makes a wonderful gift for that special someone in your life.

Knitted Closures
Learn how to avoid making buttonholes. We will discuss how to use our knitting machines, and our imaginations, to create wonderfully unique closures that will add style and flare to those special garments. These techniques are suitable for just about any machine and do not require any electronic programming or punch cards.

3-D Art
This class deals with hand manipulating knitted fabric to create art for the home or for gift-giving. Using simple items found in the home and local stores, we learn to cover and twist the knit into beautiful works of art, all at a minimum cost. Foam paint techniques are also employed along with designs usable for the least complicated knitted machine as well as for the newest electronics. We also learn how to take a fairisle design and enhance it with 3-D shapes to give it depth and personality.

           

Stained Glass Knitting and Quilting
If you can color you can create stained glass. Learn the newest technique for taking plain black and white knitting and creating beautiful colorful designs. The class also deals with methods to quilt the work to create a 3-D look. This is a hands-on class, so be prepared to paint.

Mounting and Framing
This class deals with the various ways to frame your art work, using both traditional store-bought frames as well as frames you knit yourself. Framing can be expensive. . . so, learn techniques that will keep the cost down and give you the pleasure of doing it yourself.

3-D Techniques for Clothing Design
Learn how to create beautiful garments using simple knitted 3-D manipulation. We concentrate on using the sewing machine and knitted squares of fabric to enhance any knitted garment. Learn how to make simple flowers as well as complicated "all-over" designs. Once you learn the technique you'll be amazed at what you can create. Understanding levels and designing to create art within our garments, we will also discuss design symmetry and ways to slim the silhouette.

           

DAK . . . Designing to Create Art
Learn how to do freehand drawing and tricks-of-the-trade to create beautiful artwork. We focus on designs that can then be three-dimensionalized. For users of DesignaKnit of all experience levels.
